How long have you been involved with City Care?-

15 years ( this year) founded the company with my mam/ sister on 28th April 2005 where we received our registration for domiciliary care


What is your experience?-

I have worked in care from the age of 15 as family we owned a residential care home of which I began as a care worker then progressed to  senior care , administration, office Manager and then onto Deputy Manager. 15 years ago we set up City Care ( formerly Piers View Care agency) as a domiciliary care agency in Sunderland.  During the last 15 years I have gained a wealth of experience I have worked in every role within City Care including care, finance, care co-ordinating , supervising, risk assessing, Managing, training Manager , personnel Manager and a Director role’s. I have also had lots of experience in teaching/training/ assessing including managing college contracts, working for outside organisations and providing inhouse training to our staff.


What was it about City Care that made you want to work here?-

We had a residential home as a family when I was a child and have worked in care intermittently from the age of 15. My passion has always been in care and supporting vulnerable adults and making a difference to people’s lives. An opportunity arose to become a domiciliary care provider we have now been providing a service to the Sunderland/ South Tyneside area for 15 years.

Registered Managers Award

Level 4 in Care

Certificate of post Compulsory Education( graduated City of Sunderland)

L4 in quality assurance practice ( IQA award)

L3 Al assessors award

NEBS diploma in Management

L3 diploma in working with people with disabilities

Train the trainer awards in the following areas  :

Moving and handling

Safe handling of medication

Safeguarding adults


Dementia care


All mandatory certificates are up to date including most recently prevent



What is important to you about your job? –

It is important that both our customer and staff feel well looked after within our service. We strive to keep the “ family feel” around the service we operate and ensure our service is open and transparent to both our customers and staff.  We aim to ensure everyone is well cared for and that there is no hesitation in raising a concern or safeguarding should one arise. We promote team working and look to support one another to give the best care we can to the most vulnerable in our local community.


What are your goals in the next 12 months?:

To work within our awarded contract with City of Sunderland council providing support quickly , efficiently and effectively and ensuring we remain safe at all times. We also intend to work towards an outstanding result in areas of our next CQC inspection. We need to ensure we document our achievements and promote the service we offer.   We intend to ensure our staff are recruited in a safe an effective way ensuring we attract the right people into our business and to the care sector. We also intend to ensure our staff are trained to a high standard and can access opportunities to develop further. We will strive to maintain excellent relationships with staff, customers and other outside bodies such as CQC and social services at all times and continue to provide a quality service to our customers.
